1000 days not enoughTunku Abbdul Aziz ….you need more time to cleanse yourself
The great soul abjured political power. The great and flexible body seeks political power
Are there any more moles and parasites like Tunku Abbdul Aziz ?
For the fact is that Tunku Abbdul Aziz has a lot to answer to the people of this country. he would give philosophical answers: “someone like Najib should be above board”. Yes, but is he? No answer. It’s a different matter that the anchor of this particular TV channel was only too happy to let Vedic off the hook. Had it been a minister in the government, would he have? Who is Tunku Abbdul Aziz and why should anyone even listen to him? To me, he is a barely literate at best a guru who has mastered the art of spinning like RPK He has zero understanding of how politicalL businesses work
By “allowing”, if not downright “encouraging” his bureaucrats to “steal a little”, Allocation money of captive blocks through auction will not do away with loot, undue benefit, allocated how so ever A bright CFO I know often says that the best brains in the country should work for “Operations” (meaning Business), not Finance. This comment of his is made in the context of the smart alecs on Wall Street and Dalal Street who earn millions by “doing nothing” (meaning actual business happens . But after seeing the way our Tunku Abbdul Aziz work, I think it would be good if some bright finance kids actually joined the Finance. If only they could be made to join the government sector has never understood the difference between policy and implementation. A policy is a government’s prerogative; indeed it is policies that give a government its political motif. Now that Nasha's departure from PAS is a mere formality, the question on many people’s lips is how did he rise so quickly in the Islamist party to become the deputy president in the first place? His leadership was hardly exceptional, so why did PAS delegates choose him over other more creditworthy candidates?
Something is wrong and maybe there are other moles in high positions in PAS as Hasan Ali has previously warned. Does PAS need to purge all the other moles within the party or are Hassan Ali and Nasharuddin the last ones standing?
Like General Custer, they are on shaky ground with one leg in PAS and the other in UMNO. Such behavior has annoyed and disgusted the clerics and religious conservativewithin both UMNO and PAS. It is clear to them and other Malaysians that Nasha puts his personal political ambitions ahead of Islam.
The photo of him grinning subserviently while sitting a step behind Najib was splashed all over the UMNO newspapers like Utusan and the NST. Shock was the initial reaction, which may have been Najib's intention.
But the next reaction was disgust that the UMNO elite would never change. They would always buy their way out of trouble and were so thick-skinned they did not even know what was shameful behavior..Backfiring chameleons
Sincerely, there should be a law, to forbid politicians from capitalizing on religion as political tools. Why should the country and the 'bangsa' or race get sidetracked into this type of silly argument that yields no good, but instead blocks advancement to society and to economic well-being!
Nasha should leave PAS if he truly has the conviction of his belief that PAS is not doing enough for Islam but UMNO is. If he feels that PAS’ decision to be in Pakatan is against Islamic principles, he should set the example and lead the charge out. Yet he insists he doesn't want to leave a party that he in the same breath accuses of selling out Islam.
People in PAS who gave him 'face' due to his previous high post as deputy president now know his true colors. Those who are sincere Muslims in UMNO too can see him as he is, selling out his own PAS party for the sake of political advancement. Najib too should be careful, UMNO members have just got another glimpse of his hypocrisy.
Naive
Some of the more naive think it would be wiser for the PAS leadership to ignore Nasha rather than to sack him.
But the question is not whether PAS will leave him alone but whether he will leave PAS alone! Chances are much higher Nasha will continue to cause trouble much like Hasan Ali, Zul Noordin and Zahrain Hashim until he is sacked once and for all.
It would therefore be better that PAS bites the bullet and publicly sack Nasha, making it clear that it does not tolerate two-headed snake politics. Traitors and backstabbers should not be cosseted or feared, they should be given the boot and the biggest pair too!
Chameleons like Nasha and his new masters are a dime a dozen in the streets. Give them enough time and they will always show their true colors in the end.
SEND TO HASSAN ALI AND IBRAHIM ALI WHERE HE BELONGS.

What is the good of preventing an Islamic state when they cannot prevent a corrupt and immoral state led by murderers, rapists and robbers? MCA can go to hell. Pakatan leaders can easily retire in peace because they have good young leaders in their wings. Thanks to BN, Pakatan's second echelon are battle hardened while BN's are softier than ice cream! What about the “power of the states” to decide on policies? Why has the MCA has not questioned UMNO that didn’t want Can we please focus the lights on them for just a moment? And what about the period prior to 2004. Did the MCA do any reports on HUDUD for that period? What did it find? Did it miss detecting the lack of auctions then? Did it mention that in its report then? No….for the present MCA is a political person. The present MCA has discredited the Constitutional office he holds; one by his complete lack of understanding of business and two, by being overtly political. A rumor floats around this particular gentleman’s political future – but let me not get into that.Former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, who during his 22-year tenure had been responsible for ensuring that PAS-led Kelantan could not pass its Hudud bill enactment, has now invited the Islamic party to join hands with UMNO to implement the Islamic penal code.
According to Harakahdaily, Mahathir's condition is that PAS leaves Pakatan Rakyat, the coalition led by his nemesis Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim. Many analysts rate the Pakatan as having a real chance to wrest the federal government from the BN in the next general election which is widely expected to be held within the next few months.
“UMNO will ensure a fully compliant Islamic state if PAS has a big heart to join UMNO. Other Islamic countries are also putting hope on Malaysia, but there are still people wanting to split the Muslims. That’s why our goal is not achieved,” Malay daily Sinar Harian had quoted Mahathir as saying.
The former UMNO president had once threatened to impose emergency in the form of 'Mageran' (National Operation Council) on Kelantan if the state went ahead and implemented hudud on Muslims convicted of serious crimes.
Mahathir had also previously remarked that if hudud laws were implemented, there would be many Muslims without limbs. He labeled the laws which include beheading, stoning to death, whipping as well as amputation of limbs as being outdated, adding that the Islamic laws' requirement for solid evidence and witnesses meant it could not be applied in the modern context.
Willing to bypass all the other races & religions
Mahathir's backtracking has put a cat among the pigeons. While it may rile DAP leaders, it also challenges non-Muslim component parties in the BN such as the MCA, MIC, Gerakan and the Christian-majority East Malaysian parties.
However, Pakatan leaders say it is the Muslims in PAS that Mahathir is really targeting.
"I think Mahathir has just told PAS members that if they really want hudud and an Islamic state, they should join hands with UMNO. This is the fastest way for PAS to have a realistic chance to get the two-thirds majority in Parliament it needs to pass hudud," PKR vice president Chua Jui Meng told Malaysia Chronicle.
"It is also a most unethical statement as usual from Dr M. It suggests that he and UMNO are willing to bypass the non-Malays in the governing of this country. To retain power, UMNO is willing to shut out all the other races and all the other religions to form a monopoly with PAS. Of course, PKR is confident that PAS will rebuff such an underhanded move."
Raison d'etre
Unlike UMNO and despite pressure from Pakatan partner DAP, PAS has never wavered from publicly stating hudud as one of its ultimate aspirations along with the creation of a 'true' Islamic state as the Muslim religion is its raison d'etre.
Nonetheless, party leaders from president Hadi Awang to Spiritual Adviser Nik Aziz Nik Mat have assured that any implementation of hudud would affect only Muslims and pledged they would respect the Federal Constitution, which means that they accept they will have to wait until they managed to swing the necessary majority in Parliament required to get the Bill passed.
"We are either Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs or others. Islam celebrates religious plurality and acknowledges the ‘claim of exclusivity to its belief and teachings’ and accords a respect to the ‘absolutist doctrine’ of all transcendental religions," PAS strategist and MP for Kuala Selangor Dzulkefly Ahmad said in a recent blog posting entitled A political contest beyond Hudud.
"And the bottom-line is, we are all Malaysians by way of belonging to one nation called Malaysia. Yes that is the identity we all share and cherish together, to have a nation worthy of our love, respect and sacrifice.
Serious trouble
A political analyst had also told Harakahdaily that Mahathir’s latest remark showed that UMNO was in "serious trouble" in winning the hearts and minds of Muslims.
“Mahathir did not want to see hudud implemented at all cost when he was in power with two third majority for 22 years. Now he says he wants.
"He is just capitalising on the growing anger against DAP’s Karpal Singh to solidify Malay votes for UMNO, which he knows is faced with a historic defeat. The party is in serious trouble," she added.
The UMNO-owned media has been involved in a campaign to portray DAP as being anti-Islam following Karpal's remarks opposing PAS's plan to implement hudud law on Muslims. The campaign includes a statement by a little-known Muslim preacher in Kelantan who declared that it is haram (illicit) for Muslims to vote for DAP.
Critics have lashed out at the so-called 'pondok fatwa' (Islamic ruling from a small-time cleric), pointing out that by the same logic, Muslims should also not vote for candidates from MCA and Gerakan which have strongly opposed any form of Islamic laws. The rumours spread as if on wings. The conduit, in this case, was social media - SMSs, video clips, text messages, in addition to the warnings of dark forebodings carried in alleged pamphlets distributed by fringe Hindu and Muslim groups. It didn't take much time for fear to overwhelm people from the North East living in Bangalore. Thousands of women and men flocked to the railway station. Their scramble to exit the city amid the frenzied circulation of rumours came on the back of the Assam riots and the sudden eruption of violence at a demonstration organized by Muslim groups in Mumabi a couple of days before.
The Bangalore City railway station was cramped with people from the North East (mostly from Assam), waiting to get on to the Guwahati Express scheduled to leave the city at midnight. The railways reportedly sold as many as 5,600 tickets for the three unreserved coaches on the train. As the crowd burgeoned at the station, a special train was scheduled to leave an hour after the express.
The images of a frightened people crowding the station, waiting for the arrival of trains couldn't but bring back haunting spectres of partition. Remember the powerful images of the film Train to Pakistan? The depthless, numbing, all embracing fear? But did Bangalore actually experience such raw violence? A single incident of stabbing of a Tibetan student, mistaken for a North Easterner, had indeed taken place in Mysore. That however didn't touch off the exodus. Rumours did. And this is not the first that time that fear, drummed up through whispers and gossip set off a chain of frightening events; reminding us once again of the fallacy of that hackneyed proverb: history teaches us lessons. It doesn't.
Return to 1947, a site of great trauma and fear. Its chronicle is constructed by both testimonies of witnesses of those times as well as rumours that had played such a crucial role in setting off communal violence. "The importance of rumour in the record of violence is also established, though perhaps more in the form of its making than in that of its evaluation or reconstruction", writes Gyanendra Pandey in his book Remembering Partition. Rumours stand in direct opposition to what is known as testimony of witnesses, victims of any traumatic event. They generalize, make sweeping statements, exaggerate incidents, and even fabricate them. According to Pandey, rumours leverage a language that is "infectious, possible (and almost necessary) to pass on."
The efficacy of such rumour spinning machinery has been documented as far back in history as the French Revolutionary uprisings, peasant insurrections in colonial India, and in the 1984 massacre of Sikhs in Delhi. Like in the case of Bangalore and before that in Mumbai, the government or the state intervened only after rumours have been produced and reproduced at street corners, in drawing rooms, in private and public spaces. With technological revolution fear can be constructed by social media; its message can be passed on from person to person till it assumes a collective shape: paranoia founded in nervous apprehension, but without tangible incidents to back it up.
That is the innate quality of rumours. According to Pandey, "Rumour is marked not only be indeterminacy, anonymity and contagion, but also by a tendency to excess and 'certainty'…"
Riding on the back of rumours fear has now spread to other cities like Hyderabad and Chennai. Violence also continues to prevail in Assam. But there's simply no way to stop rumour mils from circulating fear, because we can't be sure where these are originating from.
The anthropologist Veena Das has argued that in a rumour "the words that are uttered do not belong to anyone in particular." She writes that "it is precisely the failure of the signature that makes the words uttered in secrecy or words emanating from a crowd so utterly lethal."
On this auspicious New Year’s day, I would like to wish my fellow Parsis ‘Navroz Mubarak’. Yes, that’s the correct form, and not ‘Pateti Mubarak’. That would translate into ‘Greetings for Sinning’. Pateti is actually the last day of the year, and is set aside to ask for atonement for past sins of commission and omission. Commission does not mean the 30 per cent for brokering that deal. Omission does not mean minusing a clutch of double-yolked eggs from your morning menu. Yes, when the rest of the world is switching (albeit unhappily) to egg-white fritata, we thumb our long noses at cholestrerol, and actually provide a market for this dual damnation.
Naturally, on this auspicious day, we will have eggs for breakfast, lunch and dinner along with every other ingredient of excess of course. The sweet vermicelli ‘sev’ we send out to neighbours on lace-covered trays will be ringed with these hard-boiled fellows. If new brides or a baby finally born into the family come visiting, in the ‘achhu-michhu’ ritual to ward of evil, we will circle a raw egg around their head and break it on the doorstep before said entity enters. We will also do the same ‘achhu-michhu’ to the new car we have acquired on this blessed day, but, unlike, ‘tamota/ papeta/ bheeda (tomatoes/ potatoes/ okra) pur eeda’ which we love to eat, this is not called ‘Skoda pur eeda’.
We will go to the agiari early in the morning in brand new frocks and with a laundry list of requests for Ahura Mazda. We will hurry through the set prayers, and then linger long over asking the Almighty for health, happiness, a promotion, a boyfriend, a Punchayat flat, a motorbike, etc. Also for a plague, or at least viral fever, on those damned downstairs neighbours whose ceiling keeps leaking on account of our faulty plumbing and who most unreasonably expect us to pay for the damage. Marerey!
After the agiari, we will go to greet our near and dear ones, though the former may not always be the latter. However, at a time like this, goodwill is the order of the day. And a good share of the will might follow. Khursedji Kaka might still be wearing his father’s frayed daglas and ordering the cheapest daily ‘dabbo’ this side of Dhobi Talao, but the old diehard’s stash of Tata stock could turn apro Cyrus Mistry paler than he already is.
Then we will return home to a splendid lunch. After snoring it off on our four-poster beds, we will go to see a play which hits rock bottom on corn and porn, but will have the auditorium rocking. Yes, our great Parsi sense of humour has seen better days, but it is deteriorating in direct proportion to our health. Still, better to bring in the new year laughing, and forget for a while our dwindling numbers and our increasing controversies.
After that, we will settle down to another, bigger repast, with a larger group of family and friends. Eat, drink, and be merry — for tomorrow you die out. But, on this blessed morn, let me not even mention such a morbid possibility.
Instead, let me wish Saal Mubarak to my old friends: Soli Solicitor, Homi Homeopath, Jimmy Gymkhanawalla, Pesi Purser, Kawas Kawasaki, Daulat Readymoney, Dinsu Dancer and all the fair and lovely and leggy babes of our Parsi colonies who have turned us into a new kind of ‘model’ community.
