The many faces of pissing at Sizing Up Najib and Muhyiddin
Najib is an aristocrat, the son of a former prime minister. He comes from a modern nuclear family: father, mother and the five sons, Najib being the oldest. He had a privileged upbringing, including boarding school and university abroad. Najib and his brothers had plenty of parental love, what with their stay-at-home traditional mother. Even though the late Tun was a busy man, rest assured that with only five sons, he would remember and celebrate their birthdays.

BACK TO ZERO FACTOR SOLUTION ,SO THE THE TRANSITION PLAN IS OUR
- Umno vice president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today the postponement of the party elections to March next year indicates a new deadline had been set for party president Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi to step down.
“It was earlier decided 2010, but at today’s meeting the president and deputy president indicated that the postponement from December to March is to facilitate earlier transition, you can analyze anyway you want, but as far as I am concern, maybe a new deadline has been set, but let the president make the announcement,” he told reporters after the supreme council special meeting t
“I sense magnanimity in making this decision which is very important for the party,” said the International Trade and Industry Minister. When asked whether he was satisfied with the decision, as it is still unclear whether March 2009 is the new deadline, Muhyiddin said: “There must be some element of trust on the decision made today, there is no need for unnecessary speculation.”
Most importantly, we have to wait before the divisional meetings as the divisions need a clear sign whether the president will defend his position, it is not for me to say, but wait for his announcement,” said Muhyiddin.
“Let’s not pre-empt what is going to be. I cannot go beyond that,” he said.
He added that the postponement reflects the sentiment on the ground and will not affect Abdullah’s integrity.
“Whatever decision we make it must not split the party and adversely affect the president’s image,” said Muhyiddin.
“This is the best time to close ranks, because we have a bigger agenda to bring back the confidence and rebuilding the Barisan Nasional,” he added.Muhyiddin was the first senior Umno leader to urge Abdullah to reconsider the 2010 deadline.

SEPT 25 – ON THE FACE OF IT, POSTPONING THE PARTY ELECTIONS UNTIL JUNE NEXT YEAR HELPS PRIME MINISTER ABDULLAH AHMAD BADAWI MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE IN UMNO.
HE CAN REMAIN AS PARTY PRESIDENT AND PRIME MINISTER AND HAVE ANOTHER SIX TO EIGHT MONTHS TO COMPLETE SOME REFORMS AND SALVAGE HIS LEGACY.
OFFICIALS FAMILIAR WITH THE SERIES OF MEETINGS ON THE TRANSITION PLAN BETWEEN ABDULLAH AND DATUK SERI NAJIB TUN RAZAK SAY THAT THE PM WAS NOT SOLD ON THE IDEA WHEN HIS NUMBER TWO RAISED IT ON TUESDAY.
THAT POSTPONING THE PARTY ELECTIONS WOULD OPEN UMNO TO RIDICULE FROM MALAYSIANS (MANY OF WHOM ALREADY VIEW THE PARTY IN DIM LIGHT NO THANKS TO THE LIKES OF AHMAD ISMAIL, ETC) AND CREATE EVEN MORE UNHAPPINESS AMONG THE PARTY GRASSROOTS, WHO HAVE SPENT THE LAST FEW MONTHS PREPARING FOR THE ELECTIONS.
ABDULLAH’S SUPPORTERS HAVE ANOTHER REASON TO OBJECT TO PUSHING BACK THE ELECTION DATE: IT PAINTS ABDULLAH AS A DESPERATE LEADER WHO IS WILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO STAY ON AS PARTY PRESIDENT. AND THIS INCLUDES STAYING ON IN A LAME DUCK CAPACITY.
AN UMNO SUPREME COUNCIL MEMBER, WHO IS ALIGNED TO ABDULLAH, TOLD THE MALAYSIAN INSIDER: “NAJIB SHOULD EITHER SUPPORT THE TRANSITION PLAN OR TELL PM THAT HE CANNOT DO SO. THEN PAK LAH CAN GO ON AND TRY AND GET THE NOMINATIONS TO DEFEND HIS POSITION. THIS IS MORE HONOURABLE THAN TRYING TO STAY ON LIKE THIS…THIS IDEA OF POSTPONING THE ELECTIONS AND THEN HANDING THE POSITION TO NAJIB ONLY BENEFITS NAJIB.”
HOW SO?
IT APPEARS THAT THE DPM HAS LOST CONTROL OF HIS OWN WARLORDS ON THE GROUND. HE ADMITTED AS MUCH IN TALKS WITH SEVERAL SUPREME COUNCIL MEMBERS RECENTLY.
AS SUCH, HE IS UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO RISK THE BACKLASH FROM THEM IF HE CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THE TRANSITION PLAN WHICH WILL SEE ABDULLAH CONTESTING THE PARTY ELECTIONS IN DECEMBER AND THEN HANDING OVER POWER TO NAJIB IN 2010.
NAJIB BELIEVES THAT IF HE SUPPORTS THE TRANSITION PLAN UNCONDITIONALLY, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT HE AND ABDULLAH WILL HAVE TO FACE OFF WITH TAN SRI MUHYIDDIN YASSIN, TENGKU RAZALEIGH HAMZAH AND OTHER CRITICS OF THE PM.
HE HAS TOLD HIS SUPPORTERS THAT HE IS CONFIDENT THAT HE AND ABDULLAH WILL BE ABLE TO EMERGE VICTORIOUS BUT WAS WORRIED THAT IT WILL COME AT A HIGH PRICE.
ON THE FLIP SIDE, IF HE DISTANCES HIMSELF FROM ABDULLAH’S TRANSITION PLAN, THIS IS BOUND TO PERSUADE THE PM TO WAGE AN ALL OUT CAMPAIGN TO OBTAIN AT LEAST 58 NOMINATIONS FROM THE DIVISIONS AND DEFEND HIS PARTY PRESIDENT’S POSITION.
IN THIS SCENARIO, NAJIB MAY HAVE TO FACE OFF WITH ABDULLAH, A BATTLE WHICH COULD BE EXPENSIVE FOR A POLITICIAN STILL RECOVERING FROM A BATTERING TO HIS IMAGE BY THE OPPOSITION.
SO THE SAFEST OPTION FOR NAJIB WAS TO COBBLE TOGETHER A PLAN WHICH ACHIEVED THE TWIN OBJECTIVES OF ALLOWING ABDULLAH TO REMAIN IN HIS POSITION FOR A FEW MORE MONTHS WITHOUT COMMITTING TO THE 2010 TRANSITION PLAN.
HE BELIEVES THAT POSTPONING THE PARTY ELECTIONS WILL KEEP THE PEACE IN THE PARTY AND ALLOW ALL THE STAKEHOLDERS TO WALK AWAY WITH SOMETHING.
AND YES, IT WILL ALLOW NAJIB TO INHERIT AN INTACT UMNO.
AND AS A BONUS HE WILL NOT HAVE TO SEEK NOMINATIONS FROM DIVISIONS WHICH HAVE BECOME INCREASINGLY CONFRONTATIONAL TOWARDS HIM SINCE THE PERMATANG PAUH BY-ELECTION DEFEAT ON AUGUST 26.
HE REASONED
A WIN-WIN PROPOSITION FOR A MAN WITH PRECIOUS FEW OPTIONS.
ONLY IN THEORY, IT SEEMS .

Mahathir still wants it his way
After Datuk Seri Najib Razak met Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad last week, he was hopeful that the sniping from the sidelines against the party leadership would stop.
The Deputy Prime Minister discussed current political developments and the transition plan and pointed out that it could all become pear-shaped for Umno if animosity between its top names continued to fester.
Najib did not get a commitment that the verbal volleys from Dr Mahathir would cease but he was hopeful. He was wrong.
Yesterday, Dr Mahathir lashed out at Abdullah and Najib, sensing that the transition plan could survive the pressure it has come under from party officials since the Permatang Pauh by-election defeat. He also turned on the Umno supreme council, saying that it had become the personal instrument of the party president.
Writing in his blog, he drew attention to the supreme council meeting last Thursday where several members including Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz urged Abdullah to short circuit his transition plan.
“It appears that the words used by some of the members were very strong. Rafidah Aziz even attacked the roles played by Abdullah’s son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin and the PM’s son Kamaluddin.
“So harsh were the words used that Abdullah’s face changed and he was reeling from the onslaught when Najib, ever the protector of Abdullah, stopped the proceedings. Najib promised he would speak on the matter with Abdullah.
“It seems that the other supreme council members were not happy as once again controversial council matters were made into private deals between Abdullah and Najib,” he said.
Since the March 8 general election, Dr Mahathir has been championing for Abdullah’s removal, saying that he must take responsibility for the electoral setback suffered by Barisan Nasional.
Initially, he promoted Najib as the successor but this relationship soured when the DPM accepted the transition plan which will see him take control of the party in 2010.
Najib’s commitment to the plan has wavered somewhat after the by-election defeat and he recently said that divisions should be the arbiter on whether Abdullah should contest the party elections in December and then hand over power to him later.
Abdullah’s supporters interpreted this statement as a signal from the DPM that he was willing to accept nominations from the divisions for the top post. The PM has since reiterated that he will contest the top post and his supporters have promised a no-holds-barred fight against any challenger, even Najib.
Dr Mahathir accused Abdullah of turning to his son Kamaluddin, son-in-law Khairy and even his wife Datin Seri Jeanne Abdullah for advice when faced with a tricky situation. It would be the same this time too, he said.
“It is well known that the family is enjoying the power and freedom to shape Abdullah’s decisions based on their own personal interest i.e., to accumulate as much wealth as possible and to ensure Khairy’s political ambitions, including to become the country’s youngest Prime Minister,” said Dr Mahathir, who has attacked Abdullah publicly since 2006 after believing that his legacy in the country was being diminished by his successor.
He noted that by the time Abdullah meets Najib, the former would have been briefed by his family on what to say.
“And Najib being Najib would then accept Abdullah’s solution to the problem. In this case he would want to insist on staying until June 2010 or maybe a short while before. Najib would then have the task of selling this solution to the supreme council,” said Dr Mahathir.
The former prime minister’s tirade against the supreme council is surprising because when he was the party president he ruled supreme over the council. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim found this out after he was sacked from government in September 1998.
Anwar has always said that he never received a fair hearing from the council, which presumed him guilty of
Muhyiddin is one of over four dozen children of a village alim with multiple wives. It would be unlikely for his father to even remember Muhyiddin’s name, much less his birthday. In dynamics, young Muhyiddin had essentially a fatherless childhood. He attended the village school and later a small town high school, before proceeding to the local university.
The wives they have chosen too are very different. Najib’s current wife, his second, is the poster girl for extravagance and vulgarity, a Malaysian Imelda Marcos, except that Imelda had a weakness only for shoes. Muhyiddin’s wife is the typical kampong girl; she views her job as being to be by his side; to be seen but never heard.
It is easy to imagine Rosmah being actively engaged in her husband’s business. I cannot even contemplate Muhyiddin seriously engaging his wife in serious matters. He is the typical alpha kampong male; he knows what is best and his word rules.
Their seven-year age difference means that Muhyiddin could not possibly succeed Najib in the usual transition process. Muhyiddin is the older, so by the time Najib retires, Muhyiddin would be too old to take over. The only conceivable way for him to get the top slot would be if Najib’s tenure were to be prematurely cut short, by unexpected death or sordid scandals. Both are not remote possibilities. Najib’s father died in his early 50s from leukemia, and that malady remains lethal even today. As a timely reminder, many a Third World leader had succumbed to fatal “accidents.”
Scandals would be the more likely career killer for Najib. He certainly has some nasty ones hanging over him, from the brutal murder of the Mongolian model to his admitted conversations with Anwar Ibrahim’s alleged sodomy victim. Then there are the steady streams of squalid incompetence during his tenure as Defense Minister, from stolen jet engines to newly-acquired submarines that would not dive.
It does not escape everyone’s notice that far from defending Najib, Muhyiddin seems to relish his superior’s travails. Worse, he does not even bother to hide his delight.
In Malaysian politics, followers could sniff right away rivalries at the top. They would then quickly realign their positions and shift their loyalties in the hope of latching onto the winning team. The game would quickly degenerate into a sport of running down the opposing camps, with temporary alliances forged, broken, and then re-constituted to meet the quickly evolving dynamics. Thus expect even more ugly revelations from all sides.
This is already happening. Many are shocked at the utter corruption and rottenness of the party and its leaders. While such exposés would be bad for the party, they would be good for the country, especially considering that the next general election will only be a few years away.
Many would conclude that the inevitable collapse of UMNO under Najib to be the fulfillment of the RAHMAN prophecy, the “N” of the acronym representing Najib. I argue otherwise. There is no alignment of the stars that would preordain such an outcome. Rather what we have here reflects nothing more than Najib’s lack of leadership and the dearth of talent within UMNO. Had Mahathir chosen Najib instead of Abdullah as his (Mahathir’s) successor, Najib’s and thus UMNO’s political demise would have come sooner.
Were that to happen, my only regret would be to see the inglorious end to what was once an illustrious Malay institution – UMNO. Tun Razak was one of the key personalities in setting it up. It took only a generation to destroy what he had worked very hard to create and build. It would the supreme irony that it would be his son who would be responsible for destroying UMNO.
Its the scandals NAJIB No man can bring any substantive reform under any banner, as long as he remains suspect of the many allegations hanging over his head.
Perhaps that’s why the UMNO warlords are happy to keep Najib in power. In him, they probably have a compliant PM who can’t do much other than provide cosmetic, public relations and time – buying statements or actions, with the hope that if the economy improves, then Malaysians will forget about everything that is wrong with the system, and live happily ever after under 1 Malaysia. The problem with UMNO is that they keep under-estimating the voters’ moods these days, and Najib appears to be “trapped”by MAHATHIR the very system that produced him,
The cracks in Prime Minister Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia regime are showing. It does not please me to say this, because I genuinely wanted all these much-vaunted promises to come true. But 1Malaysia is clearly failing, and the Prime Minister is showing himself to be the weak leader I was afraid he was going to be.In reality, a government dominated by the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) is using spurious religious/linguistic arguments to shore up its support among a majority Malay electorate, which has been fed for years with preferences and privileges. Meanwhile, non-Malay money and talent exits the country. The idea was to use the Catholics to start trouble , shoot the population, get rid of the chinese and indians ALONG THE WAY…take over using emergency powers. This is primarily to distract the population regarding the stealing ot jet engines, the murder of tiong, Altuntaya and the pKFZ scandal running to billions. The mamak used this tactic very sneakily to cover his tracks using ISA/ OSA too. However UMNO failed to get a larger majority of good Malays and good Muslims who now know that they are playing a dangerous game to seize power.
That’s why the art of political articulation is so important. Every time an issue comes up for debate in the public domain, you must frame the questions right or run the risk of your rivals walking away with the public support that could have easily been yours. You can’t take on Sachin Tendulkar, Mukesh Ambani, Shah Rukh and NAJIB unless you have got your rhetoric right. Every ten years or so a new generation of Malaysian voters come up and question the promises earlier generations took for granted. Every few years a new road map for the future is drawn and the Malaysia we speak of takes on another shape, another imagery.UMNO does not care about the population. They have enough money to enjoy and have gala time. If the country and people . suffer .so what. They are rich and can get away anytime. It is power that they want now to hold on in order that they can cover-up their dastardly deeds as long as possible…that is the game..the POWER game….as long as they are in control even the LAW CANNOT GET THEM. IT IS TIME THAT MALAYS break away from UMOONo’s strangle and siege and act independently using their conscience and freedom given in the constitution. They have to think for the nation.the racial and religious divides an UMNO-led government seecarries two main dangers. The first is the continuing large scale exodus of capital and of talented non-Malays. Five years of generally good prices for its main commodity exports, oil, gas and palm oil, have delivered huge trade surpluses and a current account surplus of more than 10 percent of gross domestic product. But economic growth has been slow due to very weak private investment, only partly offset by large government deficit spending. Once a major recipient of foreign capital, Malaysia is now a source of flight capital. This is only sustainable while commodity prices remain at double levels of five years ago and three times those in 2002.A longer term danger, at least as perceived by some leading Malays, such as the former Finance Minister Tunku Razaleigh, is that a combination of religious intolerance and resentment of federal exploitation of their natural resources will generate secessionism in the Borneo states. They joined Malaysia in 1963 without much enthusiasm but as the best option open to them as the British withdrew from empire. They do not want their traditions of racial and religious diversity to be poisoned by peninsular prejudices. Their separate treatment on the Allah issue will have some immediate benefits for Kuala Lumpur, but can only underscore just how different they are.
In short, the episode is sad commentary on a nation whose mix of races, its fine infrastructure and wealth of resources has held such promise. If only there really were One Malaysia.
Why should we accept such nonsense from politicians, merely to satisfy their whims? It is our money that goes into satisfying these whims. I think readers should dash off angry letters to the Prime Minister, tell him that we need accountability in the system. Readers should also ask the Prime Minister why he can’t tick off the UMNO’S BIG DEAL MAKERS and order them to at least pretend to practice austerity, especially at the time when the poor are reeling under rising prices. Tell him that you hear him often shedding tears for the common man and need for austerity and accountability, so the least he can do it to ask those in power to shun such open profligacy The first step to our ultimate goals of nation building. As they say, the journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. There is this old Malay fable about a Bomoh. In a certain village, a number of children came to this BOMOH and complained about a snake that was giving them much trouble. So the BOMOH went looking for the snake, and when he found it, he advised the snake to mend its ways and stop attacking humans. The snake agreed respectfully and became docile and harmless, and the children were happy. But soon, the children lost all fear of the snake, and started hitting it with sticks and stones whenever they saw it. The snake then went to the BOMOH and complained about how his advice to stop biting had brought nothing but trouble for it. The BOMOH remarked;quot;Snake, I asked you not to bite them, but did I tell you not to hiss at them?quot; Here is a lesson for us. We need to at least hiss at these politicians, as otherwise they lose all fear and pelt us with SODOMY ,,ISA,,FABRICATION and steal our money. If you are completely, 100% passive, you WILL be taken advantage of. So, let us take the very first step. Hiss through letters. Write on issues of imporance to the concerned leaders, clearly and articulately, strongly but getting crude or abusive. Explain clearly what you are objecting to, and what you think needs to be done. When these so-called leaders receive thousands of angry letters like this, they cannot just sit back and ignore them. These letters, the first steps, also develop our own mental muscles and give us the strength to take more steps. When we write, we start getting more conscious of our own rights. We learn to articulate our grievances without burning public property. We build up more networks of like-minded people, and can move on to more significant actions that can make even bigger differences. But we all have to start with the first step.
