Elegance, beauty, grace; these are the hallmarks of a champion dog according to the Westminster Kennel Club. But if you ask us, those qualities pale in comparison to playfulness, charm, and enthusiasm. If we were handing out the blue ribbons, this giddy collection of fuzzy goofballs would take the top spots. One dog in particular is so self-possessed he even demonstrates an act of civil disobedience on a moving car’s license plate. Now that takes UMNO breeding.
For Indonesia's Muslims, the early morning wake-up call is an essential Ramadan tradition. Children take to neighbourhood streets in the early hours, drumming pots and pans to wake the faithful for the pre-dawn meal before a day of fasting. |
But as Al Jazeera's Step Vaessen reports from Jakarta, complaints of noise have prompted the country's highest Muslim council to consider taking action |
“We have no choice but to wage war to protect the Muslim faith. We give you a last warning. If you don’t stop, we’ll burn,” said Ezam. He also warned Muslim staff of Malaysiakini and Malaysian Insider not to become agents for infidels.
Not satisfied, he then extended his warning to Selangor’s Christian exco members- Teresa Kok, Elizabeth Wong, Ronnie Liu and Xavier Jayakumar. We have a problem if the Menteri Besar pawns Islam for votes. We have problems with infidels who convert Muslims,” he said.
This was the level of Ezam's commitment and love for Islam, or so he told a gathering organised by newly formed Gerakan Cegah Murtad, an NGO to hunt down those who tried to proselytize innocents Muslims in the aftermath of the JAIS raid on the Damansara Utama Methodist Church.
But PKR vice president N Surendran says Ezam has behaved like a criminal. Surendran has called on the police to take action against the UMNO Senator over his threat to "burn". Surendran said it was appalling that a senator should utter such words of violence threatening grievous harm or even death against staff, writers and other occupants of the online firms.
A disgrace to the Malays and Muslims
And so the story, sad and tragic, continues to unfold. As expected, the culprits have finally shown their true colours. Who else but UMNO would dare to do such a grevious harm against Islam's image? Right from day one, something smelled fishy in the JAIS raid.
The target was the Pakatan Rakyat state government and not the Christians. This raid, including Ezam's outburst, is aimed at showing the Malays and the Muslims in Selangor how 'inept' and'untrustworthy' a multiracial state leadership can be to the community's interest. At the heart of it, UMNO is appealing to the closet racists in the Malay community. UMNO is asking the racialist in each Malay to vote for BN in the next GE and not Pakatan.
Senator Ezam Nor continues to show his true colours. Since abandoning Anwar Ibrahim three year ago and even forsaking his previous threats to expose the corruption in the BN government with his few precious boxes of 'secret' documents, he has managed to wangle himself a cushy job as a Senator in the Dewan Negara. Wonder what happened to those boxes of information against the BN?
Prior to that he headed the Malaysia Gerakan Rakyat Anti Korupsi Malaysia or GERAK - an anti-corruption movement, but everyone is flabbergasted with his lack of output. Where are the corruption revelations, how come the information in the boxes never see the light of the day. Was there a trade off with BN?
Well known for his sensationalism and harmless threats, today Ezam is largely ignored by Malaysians who are aware of his empty drum that makes the most noise. However, Ezam’s bizarre statements on Friday have riled up the people. Do the Malays and Muslims need another Ibrahim Ali to futher damage them? Purportedly to defend Islam, his unbecoming words are not only an insult to non-Muslims but also a disgrace to Malays and Muslims in general. Muslims simply do not go about defending Islam with threats of arson, jihad (holy war) and other abuses against Muslim employees in media organizations.
A political desperado, one cannot help noticing his desperation as he issued the ultimatum: We have no choice but to wage war to protect the Muslim faith. We give you a last warning. If you don’t stop, we’ll burn.
This guy seriously needs to get his head checked. Like Ibrahim Ali, he has just dissuaded every non-Malay to side with the ruling government. Most Malays are not amused at his fiery display of passion either. In fact, many find it downright insulting to utter such disgusting words in purported defence of Islam. It is people like him that make Muslims question their own faith!
With insensitive nutcases like him running around, the Islamic Outreach Missionary Body should just close shop. So many potential ‘saudara baru’ (converts) will be turned off.
Overstepped the boundaries, this time it is criminal
Most of Ezam's capers have been ignored in the past, as most Malaysians have seen through him and his veiled warnings. Writing him off as a rabble-rouser with a penchant for sensationalism, nobody takes any serious interest in him and the mere mention of his name invokes laughter and scorn.
But this time, he has overstepped the boundaries of political decency. Perhaps he is under pressure to perform and make good on his promises after being awarded a Senatorship, perhaps the powers-that-be look to him to deliver the 'goods'. In his haste to fan racial conflicts at the expense of religion, he keeps on tripping over himself to plot the ultimate controversy, the 'one' that will turn the tide for UMNO and BN.
His antics are starting to resemble those of Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali. Physically, Ezam is younger and less plump. But despite the different 'face' and 'body', the tactics are the same. Ezam is now aiming for express fame and the hero-worship of the extremists in UMNO. But whether they realize it or not, he may be bringing them ruin - just like Ibrahim Ali, whom pundits say might even lose his Pasir Mas seat.
Concerned Malaysians have challenged Ezam to walk the talk and start burning, if he dares to do it. Don’t try to be a hero at the expense of national security. Like Ibrahim Ali who vowed ‘Jihad’ but went missing during the July Bersih 2.0 rally, Ezam is expected to walk down the same road.
Others have commented that it is because of people like Ezam and his so called band of NGOs, that Muslims feel embarrassed about themselves. With his kind of sick mentality, most people think he won’t last in the political arena let alone be a future leader of this country. Everyone will shun him like a fat toad (no pun to Ibrahim Ali).
“Sikit sikit mau jihad. The last time I looked at the penal code, Arson was a crime. What's happening? Now all arsonists have to say "In the Name of Islam" and all will be right? Soon they will rob and rape and all will be justified if they shout the same?” a comment by a reader best sums up this sad and sorry episode.
And by the way, what are the chances the BN and the police will take action against Ezam on this latest ruckus? Will it be more deafening silence, shall we expect Nazri Aziz, the minister in the PM's department, to excuse it away as he did for Ibrahim Ali? No wonder, Malaysia is in a fine mess and sinkng fast

Did mahathir piss at Malaysia’s Royals?, ! Prince William decided to take a piss, and exposed his royal penis, Malay royalty present more embarrassment for UMNO
‘How does such reporting undermine the royal institution? Do the reports say that the king himself is responsible for the salaries and is late in paying the workers?’
‘How does such reporting undermine the royal institution? Do the reports say that the king himself is responsible for the salaries and is late in paying the workers?’
Pemerhati: There could be three possible reasons for senator Ezam Mohd Nor’s racist outburst. The first possible reason is that he knows that the fastest way to go up the Umno ladder is to show that you are an out and out racist. Mahathir Mohamad and Najib Razak used this strategy and rose to the top quickly.
The second possible reason is that Najib has decided to use extreme racism to win over the Malay vote and has unleashed people like Ezam, Ibrahim Ali and Suara Perkasa to achieve this aim. To win over the non-Malay vote and to appear like a statesman, Najib personally is using the 1Malaysia strategy.
The third possible reason is that this mega-project was conceived so that the Umnoputras could siphon off a lot of money, similar to what Mahathir did in the past. Now the money for this overpriced contract has been siphoned off by the top Umnoputras, the sub-contractors are given very little. Thus, they can hardly break even and are not able to pay the wages of the workers.
Dr Krishna: Ezam, you are a ‘tin kosong’ (empty vessel). The reports only concern the mistreatment of workers and the building’s safety. If they, the contractors, don’t pay the workers, it indirectly relates to the safety of the building and the Agong.
If the reports are wrong, let the opposition MPs and NGOs interview the workers directly. Why do you want to drag the issue of race into this?
Phra Ong Chao: How does such reporting undermine the royal institution? Do the reports say that the king himself is responsible for the salaries and is late in paying the workers? Is the king or the Council of Rulers the employer of these contract workers? Don’t be stupid, Ezam.
Dr Jacob George: It’s sad and rather troubling that we do not have any mechanism to check the quality of those who aspire to become politicians. One pertinent question is how will an investigation into the behaviour of contractors and the treatment of their workers undermine the royal institution? Rather bizzare.
Swipenter: Empty vessels make the most noise. Now am I anti-Malay? Or am I just making a statement about Ezam, who is a Malay? How on earth can he link contractors not paying wages to the workers as an attack on the Malay institutions, and being anti-Malay or anti-Istana?
Susah Kes: Ezam, if Umno/PM Najib employed you do take potshots at Pakatan Rakyat, then all you are doing is helping the latter’s cause much further by coming out with these dumb statements. This is 2010. You can longer spew idiotic statements. People notice, and they can evaluate for themselves.
Najib, can I suggest something? Fellas like Ezam, S Nallakarupan and Ibrahim Ali are doing you and Umno more harm than good. If their names appear under your ‘political strategy’ discussion paper, then Umno is in a truly sorry state.
My rights: Even if what Ezam claimed is correct (to give him the benefit of doubt), there are still too many who did not get their salaries on time. These are not well-to-do people, they usually live day-to-day on their salary. Ezam, how would you feel if you’re the one who was not getting paid?
Lucia: How the hell can such a report on workers not being paid undermine the royal institution? Really! Ezam really ‘tak ada otak’. And he goes further by sayingMalaysiakini is against the Malay institutions. So this is all what it’s about? The Malays?
Next, when Malaysiakini criticises the police or Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, would he also say it is attacking Malay institutions? *Sigh* So Ezam, like most of them Umnoputra (especially Perkasa boss Ibrahim Ali), is a racist.
Not Confused: How the heck can the non-payment of salaries to workers on the construction site be anti-Malay or anti-monarchy? It is the most ridiculous comparison that anyone could make. He should go away and crawl back under the rock he came from because he is not living on the same planet as the rest of us.
The rakyat should despair that this guy is a senator and involved in running the country and debating legislation. His intellect is so clearly lacking and totally illogical. If his mentality is indicative of the rest of the legislature, then Heaven help the country!
Fouzi Yunus: I do not understand why news portals and newspapers were still paying attention to irrelevant individuals like Ezam and Ibrahim Ali. Leave these losers alone and they will soon vanish from Malaysian politics.
Laughing: Ezam, well done. You are so insightful, so sharp, so passionate. I urge you to do these interviews more regularly and really give these online news portals a run for their money. And by the way, do go forth with the all-out-war with Steven Gan. Go get him.
Kleo: Thousands of immigrant workers are suffering and are being exploited and he’s talking about how this could hurt the royal institution?
Interested bystander: Firstly, I don’t understand why money is being thrown away on a new istana; I haven’t read anywhere that something is wrong with the current one.
Secondly, there is no way that any federal ministry is going to seriously investigate the issue of non-payment to workers. From what we hear, the police are making a bundle shaking down the illegal workers on the project site.
Pure: What can you expect from this fall guy, who was a fervent defender of Anwar Ibrahim and who suddenly, after he was distanced from Anwar, only then realised who Anwar actually was? And now he is playing the racial card, as if he was the great defender of the royalty.
KayKay: This is another attempt, Umno-style, to twist and turn a straight-forward labour issue into a racial issue while getting some cheap publicity. What next? Another Bangkit Melayu rally where only two people turn up? The Malays will no longer fall for this kind of cheap tactics.
If the workers have not been paid, they have not been paid. Period. Why bring in irrelevant things? After all, our contractors are noted for cheating foreign workers.
Anonymous2: Mr Senator, why don’t you ask for the details of the contract to construct the palace, and reveal them for the rakyat to see and assess if there is cronyism, wastage and plundering. Otherwise, it is not worth the rakyat paying your senator’s salary.
Arul Inthirarajah: If anything, it’s Ezam who should be charged with sedition for putting the contractors on the same pedestal as their majesties. Is an absence of grey matter a prerequisite for joining Umno?
Al: Racial politics is the refuge of cowards and the politically bankrupt, and we shouldn’t expect any better knowing this guy’s record.

“we are being gracious” not to enforce the law strictly. Which means, “be grateful to UMNO OR ELSE!”. we dont give dam if you are the Malay Rajas
Najib’s efforts, as reported in Malaysiakini, to assure us that the recent entry of 40 ulama into UMNO would not turn the party into an extremist Islamic party reminded of a hilarious story narrated to me by one of my dearest of friends.
This friend was then still at varsity and one of his friends was to deliver a lecture or something like that along the lines of ‘What is a Muslim’ or something like that. Let’s call my friend’s friend J.
J took to the rostrum and asked the audience to imagine a pig, freshly circumcised, dressed in a green jubah, sitting rather dignified-like, hind legs folded in a lotus position, on a green, velvet cushion.
Imagine, J asked the audience, that you now adorn the head of the pig with a skull cap and throw an ‘Arafat’ scarf around its neck.
J went further.
Now stick a long goattee on its chin.
Then came the most difficult part.
Train the pig, J asked the audience, to scream everytime anyone passed by who was not similarly attired, “Death to the infidels! Death to the infidels”.
And when you’ve succeeded in doing all of this, J posed to the audience, take a step back, look at the pig and ask yourself, ‘Is this a Muslim?’.
My friend tells me that J barely made it out of the lecture hall to a waiting cab!
So, no Jibby, we have no concerns that UMNO might turn into an Islamic party, extremist or otherwise.
You see, all the ulama and all the clergy you entice into UMNO cannot sanitise and render kosher that which you and your ilk rob from the poor rakyat.
There isn’t two sen worth of Islam running through the veins of UMNO.
Seriously, J’s pig has a head start over you lot at ever being Muslim!
It doesn’t lie, rob or murder!

When you have just befriended a guy, it’s often hard to figure out his feelings for you. While some men can be very direct and show interest right away, others prefer sending subtle hints your way. But at times, the signals tend to get really mixed and you can’t tell whether he thinks of you as a buddy or something more.
- Try and figure out how he generally is with his friends. This will give you a good insight into his normal behaviour. Does he call up or sms all his girlfriends often or is it just you? See how he’s with his other friends and then you will know whether you’re reading too much.
- Make sure you aren’t missing the point. Very often women tend to get carried away. For example, if he is extra nice to you and offers to pick you up from your workplace, it may not mean there are feelings. There’s a good chance he’s just concerned about your safety.
- Men who have been drinking too much, may try to get a little extra close to you. If he’s high, he may have said something to the effect that he likes you and it could just be the alcohol talking. Meet him after the alcohol has worn off and see if his feelings still exist.
- Don’t read too much into the nice guy act. Some men are just polite and know how to treat women well. His complimenting you may not be a sign of flirting but just the way he is with everyone. Don’t mistake his sweet personality as a sign that he likes you.
- Men are a confused lot. They can often be a bit indecisive and unsure of whether they really like you. Guys also like to play the field. There’s a good chance that he’s flirting with you and some other girls at the same time and still trying to figure who he wants to date. Make sure you don’t get hurt.
- Despite their macho image, men are scared too. He may secretly like you but be unsure of how you will react. He could also be fearing rejection or be intimidated by your good looks. See if you still want to give him a chance.
On June 27, Saiful said he met Ezam in Rawang to complain to the latter about how Anwar had allegedly abused him.

Ezam, a former close confidant of Anwar since his days as deputy premier, had quit PKR after a fallout and since then has been on the warpath against his ex-boss.
Where is UMNO’s soul? May I remind UMNO members, that the soul of UMNO is expressed clearly in Fasal 3 of UMNO’s Constitution:
Mempertahankan kemerdekaan dan kedaulatan negara.
