The resolution recommended the termination of the British Mandate for Palestine and the partition of the territory into two states, oneJewish and one Arab, with the Jerusalem-Bethlehem area being under special international protection, administered by the United Nations. The resolution also contained a plan for an economic union between the proposed states, and a plan for the protection of religious and minority rights. The resolution sought to address the conflicting objectives and claims to the Mandate territory of two competing nationalist movements, Zionism (Jewish nationalism) and Arab nationalism, as well as to resolve the plight of Jews displaced as a result of theHolocaust. In a communication to the United Nations Palestine Commission dated 19 January 1948, the Arab Higher Committee for Palestine stated that it was "determined [to] persist in rejection [to the] partition and in refusal [to] recognize UNO resolution [with] this respect and anything deriving therefrom".[5] Two notable exceptions to this rejectionist line were the National Liberation League in Palestine, an Arab-Palestinian Communist faction which supported the Partition Plan, and (in private discussions) Emir Abdullah of Transjordan who, according toGolda Meir's account, negotiated with the Zionist movement a possibility of adopting the Partition Plan and annexing the Arab part to his emirate. He later suggested that Transjordan should annex the whole mandate territory and establish a Jewish autonomous entity, to be eventually aligned with the rest of the Arab countries.[6]
The realization of the full horrors of the genocide of the European Jews had led to growing demands for a Jewish state. British forces stood in the middle between Palestinian Arabs and Jewish settlers and immigrants, but a prolonged guerrilla conflict and growing American pressure forced the British to abandon the area. Israel was established by compelling Arab acquiescence, but the consequence has been six decades of violence. The surrounding Arab states fought Israel unsuccessfully in 1948 and again in 1967 and 1973.
In 1956 Israel found unlikely allies in Britain and France in the attempt to forcibly prevent the new nationalist regime of Egypt's Gamal Abdel Nasser from taking over the Suez Canal. The Suez crisis was the last flourish of old imperial Europe. American and Soviet Union pressure ended this European operation, making it finally evident that the long period of European hegemony that had dominated the wider world for two centuries was gone for good.

With no plan for a smooth transition of authority to a new administration, Britain announced its intention to unilaterally withdraw from Palestine by 15 May 1948. During their withdrawal, the British refused to hand over territory or authority to any successor. Chairman Kerry Statement On Former Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry (D-MA) released the following statement today about Former Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim:
“I call on the government of Malaysia, and specifically on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, to ensure a fair and equitable resolution of the legal proceedings currently under way against former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
“It has been over a decade since Anwar’s first trial, on charges that were later overturned by the Federal Court. The current charges closely mirror the ones levied years ago, and have been brought soon after Mr. Anwar’s resumption of his role as elected Member of Parliament and leader of the parliamentary opposition. I urge the Malaysian government to accord Mr. Anwar every legal protection to which he is entitled as a Member of Parliament and as a citizen– and to settle his case in a manner that builds confidence in the impartiality and credibility of the Malaysian judicial system.”
1. Was he really sexually assaulted by Anwar Ibrahim? If he was not, who pressured him to make the report?
2. If he was sexually assaulted by Anwar Ibrahim, then why did he allow Anwar to get away with it more than once (based on his police report)?
3. If the sex was not consensual, how did an old man force himself onto a strapping young man 23 years of age (as noted by the analysts in Malaysiakini)? Were there accomplices? Was he drugged?
4. How will he address all the concerns about his pictures with government ministers floating around the net? Was he a spy? Or just want to ‘tumpang glamour’?
5. How will he address the allegation that he was physically campaigning for Anwar Ibrahim, but was actually campaigning online (via his Friendster) for Barisan Nasional during the last General Elections?

Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has denied any involvement in the sodomy allegation against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“I am not involved in the case in any way,” the Deputy Prime Minister told reporters at Parliament lobby here on Monday.
On Saturday, Anwar's former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan had lodged a police report alleging he had been sodomised by the PKR de facto leader.
A day later, Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail released a picture of Najib's special officer Khairil Anas Yusof with Mohd Saiful at the Deputy Prime Minister’s office, implying that he was behind the conspiracy against Anwar.
Najib said the picture was taken three months ago when Mohd Saiful went to his office to apply a for government scholarship.
“The accuser (Mohd Saiful) met with my officer (Khairil Anas) because he wanted to apply for a scholarship from the Government. The picture was taken three months ago.
“He was a student leader and met with my officer. He had also met other leaders.
"The main question is did the act take place. That is for the police to establish,” Najib said.

The Malaysian government alleges that Anwar Ibrahim is a Jew lover, a CIA agent and a tool of the Americans -- all in one but not necessarily in that order. APCO, however, is lobbying the United States government to get Anwar declared an enemy of America and the Jews. Below is the letter B’nai B’rith International wrote to get Anwar declared an enemy of the state.
Since APCO is behind this move it would most likely succeed -- mainly because the Jewish lobby is very powerful and very seldom would the United States government ignore them and not kowtow to their demands.
This may not bode well for Anwar who makes frequent trips to the United States to give talks and deliver keynote addresses. Anwar may now find the invitations dwindling and some organisations and universities may be under pressure to cancel whatever invitations they have planned for Anwar to speak in their events.
Well, you can’t have it both ways. Either Anwar is a friend of the Jews, like how Umno alleges, or he is an enemy of the Jews, like how B’nai B’rith International alleges.
Anwar may lose out on international speaking engagements, in particular in the United States, but at least now he can go meet the Malays in thekampongs and tell them that Umno is lying about his Jewish connection and that he has, in fact, been declared an enemy of the Jews by the most powerful Jewish organisation in the world outside Israel.
Has Umno unwittingly given Anwar more prestige amongst the Malay-Muslim voters? I suppose Umno also can’t have it both ways. Either Anwar is a friend of the Jews or he is their enemy. And with this latest move by APCO, Anwar is clearly going to be declared the latter.
It is the Malays who will be voting in the next general election, not the Americans. So what the Malays think matter more than what the Americans think.
