“If the king is immoral, so will be his subordinates”
A fish rots from the head down – never from the tail up. This embedded culture of corruption has led to squalid misgovernance. The rot is reflected in leakages in misuse of power which hurts the poor the most. It abets the builder-mafia-politician nexus which drives millions to live in hardship as their landare appropriated illegally. It is responsible for corrupt municipalities, a slow judiciary and a brutalised, politicised police force. To stem the rot, reform must begin from the top. The Malaysian public, long a mute spectator to its own plunder, has finally awoken – thanks partly to Anwar’s reformasi crusade as well as to sections of the new media still uncompromised by vested business and government interests.
the dynastic insouciance of mahathir and the general lowering of standards of public ethics by the UMNO, The fading vote-catching ability of Mahathir demonstrated starkly in the last election G12 , carries long-term implications for Malay politics. If the Mahathir pioneered dynastic politics in the 1970s by endorsing rather than reforming Malay’s feudal society is increasingly sidelined by a changing, modernising Malays, There has been a flurry of post-mortems on UMNO electoral reverses however, is that the UMNO remains a fundamentally flawed political organisation with a medieval “high command” culture. According to the Peter Principle, people in an organisation tend to rise to their level of incompetence. In the UMNO, ministers and MPs rise to the level of incompetence of the party’s feudal leadership. The spectacle of fawning UMNO men and women trying to ingratiate themselves with the family symbolises all that is wrong with not only the UMNO but all dynastic political parties:UMNO current predicament is largely self-inflicted.Najib does not have the absolute executive freedom the Constitution guarantees a prime minister. The vacuum of leadership in Barisan has allowed allies from Sarawak and Sabah to hold the government to ransom on crucial policy issues. While the UMNO has several talented MPs and ministers, they are doomed forever to serve in a party where the top job – with unfettered political authority –Fewself-respecting professionals can thrive in a political organisation where the path to the top is permanently blocked. The talented professionals who do stay in UMNO comfort themselves with ministerships, governorships and parliamentary perks rather than pursue the intellectual challenge of policymaking and nation-building without fear of being vetoed by the party’s feudal hierarchy. will never be theirs.sycophancy, mediocrity, nepotism, Feudal politics has declining appeal. While the success of suggest otherwise, the more larger-than-life dynasties government’s elephantine corruption. but the electorate has sent a clear message: corruption will no longer be tolerated. It is a message that should be closely listened to by all scam-tainted parties as they prepare for 2013.Those who engage in brazen illegalities over timber land and other natural resources will also suffer electorally. The Malay vote can no longer be taken for granted. Malay today want education, not appeasement. Promises of reservations will not do unless they are backed up by genuinely secular politics and not a communal brand of politics masquerading as secularism which marginalises Malay rather than treating them as Malay first. incompetence, corruption. 2013 could mark the beginning of a new political era.
Just because his predictions on the fall of three states came true in the 2008 election doesn’t mean that what he sees should be treated as biblical prophecies.’readmorehttp://suarakeadilanmalaysia.wordpress.com/2012/03/16/mahathir-and-daim-had-planned-to-kicked-out-najib-to-make-umno-their-personal-property/
