So that is the teaser... It is just a short footage of the original 22-minute video. At about 7:00 pm local time yesterday, an anonymous Youtube uploader by the sceenname of "thepowercam" from Thailand uploaded a 1:47 minutes duration clip of hidden camera video purportedly showing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim about to have sex with a prostitute. However the video as already been removed for violatingYoutube's policy on nudity or sexual content.

The video clip showed three individuals including one who resembled Anwar Ibrahim, another man and a female believed to be a Chinese prostitute in a hotel room. At the end of the leaked clip the othe man left the room and the woman was seen in towel before the man who look like the opposition leader hug her.

The uploaded video had a white strip at the bottom with Thai script written on it. The strip was not on the version that first surfaced and originally shown to reporters two weeks ago at Carcosa Seri Negara. Businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay, one of the three men who claimed to be the mysterious "Datuk T" that exposed the video, told epoters that they had not released the video to anyone and that the only copy remained with the police. "I don’t know anything about this," he said, before stating that he would need to see the clip before commenting further.

On Friday, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the sex video clip allegedly involving an opposition politician is genuine.Opposition Leader Anwar has denied he is the man in the video and accused Umno of a politically motivated "scurrilous attack" on him. Some say the involvement of former Umno Youth chief Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik and Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuib Lazim has lent credence to the claim as Umno sought to distance itself from the video.

The clip has surfaced on the Internet just two days after police said the video they received was not doctored. However the video clip duration is only one minute and 47 second compared to the original video clip which was 22 minutes as claimed by "Datuk T" and the journalist who were invited to the private viewing. The full sex video, said to be of the opposition politician and a woman suspected to be a prostitute, was shown privately to selected journalists on February 21 at Carcosa Sri Negara. On the same day, Anwar Ibrahim in a press conference denied that he was the man in the video. He lodged a police report two days after the video viewing.

Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali is convinced of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government’s innocence over the sex video allegedly featuring Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Pasir Mas independent MP told reporters in Parliament that he could vouch for the government after opposition politicians pointed fingers at BN and government leaders as masterminds behind the video.

“I am confident that this has nothing to do with the ruling party or the government.”

Both Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein have earlier said that they were not involved with the secret recording.

“It’s not that I want to defend Umno but I want to help give the right perception. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the government is involved,” Ibrahim said.

Denials from the Inspector General of Police Ismail Omar and Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein that they were not involved in a two-minute snippet of the sex video implicating Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim found little traction with the Malaysian public and government critics.

Just days ago, Ismail had sparked suspicion when he suddenly declared that a forensic investigation had found that the 21-minute video had not been "doctored, but he refused to say if the man filmed having sex with a prostitute was Anwar or merely a look-alike.

It sparked immediate accusations that he was trying to malign Anwar through insinuations. Three days later, on Monday, a snippet of the video - already surrendered to the police - was uploaded on YouTube and on pro-Umno blogs.

It paved the way for all the Umno-controlled newspapers including Utusan to front-page stills of scenes that showed the man resembling Anwar.

“Of course it (the video) did not come from us. That is illegal and immoral. How can I allow such a thing?” Ismail told a press conferece on Tuesday to defuse speculation that the police had conspired with the Umno elite to bring Anwar down.

But he failed to convince Malaysians, accustomed to Umno's penchant for hatching conspiracies to bring down political rivals.

It did not help that Home Minister Hishamuddin Hussein was also lined up to help deny government complicity in the plot.

“We don’t know where the video came from. Who uploaded it, we don’t know,” Hisham said.

Sad day for Malaysia

Yet the day before, Hisham - who is Prime Minister Najib Razak's cousin - had taken pains to stress that Umno, BN, his ministry and the police were all not involved in the video that has shocked the nation and sparked sharp rebuke from community leaders.

"This must be one of the saddest days in Malaysian history. A decent and respected family must watch pronographic clips conceived by leaders who are supposed to govern their country. They must watch the tape because their fatheir is defamed by unscrupluous rascals," PAS MP for Bukit Gantang Nizar Jamaluddin (below left) told Malaysia Chronicle.

Nizar was referring to a press conference where Anwar's wife and family stated that they had watched the snippet on the Internet and found that the man was not Anwar due to his sharply different physique and size.

"It is clear that the body and physique of the actor in the video is extremely different from the body and physique of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This is strengthened by the fact that for over a year now Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been accompanied by his children whenever he exercises and undergoes physiotherapy as part of recuperative measures for his injured spine," Anwar's wife and PKR president Wan Azizah had said earlier on Tuesday.

Still no arrests despite committing a crime

Anwar himself is in Sarawak, busy leading the Pakatan Rakyat campaign to topple the BN government at polls due for balloting on April 16.

He has accused Najib and Hisham of being involved.

"Najib is involved. If not, how can they (the 'Datuk T' trio) get cleared? The criminals are clearly getting away with this. They don't care about the truth even after it is established. They just want to create a issue," Anwar told reporters on Monday night.

He was referring to the three men who called themselves the Datuk T trio - former Malacca mentri besar Rahim Thamby Chik, Perkasa treasurer Shuaib Lazim and businessman Shazryl Eskay, who have confessed to 'finding' the tape and screening it to a group of reporters, editors and select PKR leaders.

Despite committing a crime, none of the men have been arrested. They have surrendered the tape - which they claimed was the only one they possessed - to the police last month.

It is a crime to possess and screen pornographic material in Malaysia.

The increasing accidents should be a concern of all.

Is he thinking?

After engineering the downfall of his handpicked successor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi with surgical precision, is former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad now training his scalpel on his protege Najib Tun Razak’s jugular?

Those attending a function here this morning must have felt that this was the case based on the 84-year-old’s scathing remarks.the medical doctor-turned-politician, suggested that Najib’s government should be given the boot if did not convince parents that education was one of its topmost priorities.

“You can change the government if you want to, or if you don’t want to change the government, you can change the person. But telling me (the problem), a former prime minister, is not going to help. You must tell the (current) prime minister,” he said.Najib Tun Razak can only shake his head in dismay as the reports and briefings all paint a very bleak future for the Barisan Nasional.

The message is depressingly the same: in the next polls bout, his ruling coalition stands little chance of regaining the states lost to Pakatan Rakyat. Worse still, the opposition may make new gains in several states.

The prime minister and BN supremo is in a pickle: how to stem the tide? How to rally the disgruntled people to his cause? His pet projects lie virtually in tatters, his party members are ripping each other apart, his coalition partners are tearing into each other, while his political foes are growing stronger by the day.

The situation is so bad that some opposition leaders believe that Najib may resort to extreme measures to stop the deepening rot – exploit every issue, create a climate of fear, push the country to the brink and then invoke the draconian Internal Security Act.

The reasoning is that with all his opponents in Kamunting, he may entertain hopes that he can go to the polls playing the role of a saviour. The bad guys are not around to spoil his party. Only the good guys – him and his fellow dudes – are left and people will have no choice but to play along.

But political observers do not think Najib will turn into a desperado simply because the crude antics may backfire. People may choose to stay home.

Najib is left with one window of opportunity – the Sarawak election. A convincing victory over there will throw a lifeline to his sinking sampan. But the outlook is not so rosy. When Sibu fell in the recent battle, it clouded the prospects of the BN. Then there is Taib Mahmud, the White Rajah of Sarawak.

He fears being hauled up and be asked to account for the billions diverted purportedly to UMNO but kept by individuals who may turn out to be crooks!

The main group is TDM who holds most of the ACES, to charge TAB or Najib and both are force to join his game play.

TDM not only controls the ACES but also controls MACC,AG and the authorities.

Raja Petra Kamaruddin, the operator the Malaysia Today website, has been at forefront of a series of articles exposing the ramifications behind several huge privatization deals. Not only has he accused Mahathir, Badawi and former finance minister Daim Zainuddin of helping Tajudin pilfer from MAS, Raja Petra also alleged that Najib was now using the national railway company as his new cash cow.

On Friday, Mahathir – who is the patron of Perkasa – defended the group after Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan disavowed links with it. His comments generated talk that his rift with Najib might widen as result of this dispute.

“Perkasa members are Umno supporters. It would not help Umno’s cause to turn them away,” Dr Mahathir told the New Straits Times.
